UKEAP: Acid Gas and Aerosol Network
What is the purpose of the network?
The Acid Gas and Aerosol Network (AGA-Net) provides monthly average concentrations of acid gases and inorganic aerosol composition using UKCEH DELTA® samplers at 28 sites, as of August 2024. The network objective is to provide a long-term dataset of monthly speciated measurements of acid gases and aerosols that are used to provide information on the long-term rural trends of pollutants that contribute to the acidification and eutrophication of ecosystems within the UK.
In addition to the NH3 and NH4+ measured by the 28 DELTAs for the NAMN (National Ammonia Monitoring Network), the same systems also measure monthly average air concentrations of gaseous nitric acid (HNO3), sulphur dioxide (SO2), hydrochloric acid (HCl, only until 2016) and particulate nitrate (NO3- ), sulphate (SO42-), chloride (Cl-), sodium (Na+), calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) for AGA-Net.
What is measured?
An extension of the DELTA system at the NAMN sites is used to additionally sample gaseous HNO3, SO2, HCl and particulate NO3-, SO42-, Cl-, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+.
