Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I compare UV where I live in the UK with other places?

You can see actual or typical values for your area of the UK by looking at the UV data section of this website.

You can find forecast UV index for the UK and Europe from the UK Meteorological Office.

Many other countries also provide actual or forecast UVI.

Satellite products can calculate UV for the globe using satellite measurements of ozone, cloud and aerosol to then derive the UV expected at the ground. This system is not perfect and does not necessarily match a specific place on the ground, especially if there is a lot of cloud or aerosol, but it does give an indication of the UV levels you might expect in different parts of the world, and is especially useful in regions where there are no UV measurements at the ground.
