  • How do I know my skin type?

    There are six skin types, classified by natural pigmentation, ability to develop pigmentation (tan), propensity to burn, and associated typical hair and eye colouring. Skin type I represents the palest skin and the most likely to sunburn, while skin type VI represents heavily pigmented individuals with a lot of natural protection from UV.

    Skin Classification Table

    Type I
    Always burns, rarely tans. Pale white skin, blue/hazel eyes, blond/red hair.

    Type II
    Usually burns, sometimes tans. Fair skin, blue eyes.

    Type III
    Sometimes burns, usually tans. Darker white skin.

    Type IV
    Rarely burns, often tans. Light brown skin.

    Type V
    Naturally brown skin. Often has dark brown eyes and hair.

    Type VI
    Naturally dark black or brown skin. Usually has black-brown eyes and hair.
