Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does the measurement of ozone at the automatic monitoring stations take the natural background level into consideration?

Ozone concentrations at remote sites with low pollution such as Lough Navar or Strath Vaich, are typically in the range 30 - 40 ppb. The data reported from automatic monitoring stations do not include any background corrections i.e they are as measured. Conversion factors for ppb to µg/m3 are pressure and temperature dependent. Conversion factors used for reporting UK data are given at: Conversion Factors Between ppb and µgm-3 and ppm and mgm-3 (PDF 40.83 KB).

You can get more details on ozone in the report Ozone in the United Kingdom.
